Been fiddling with the 1776, not very far on with it as had a bad back, today i tried to turn engine over by hand and it failed to turn 360 without there being an audible clink and stiffness so i stopped turning the crank, took off the rocker covers, notice that i probaly need to remove the rockers and start from scratch in torque setting the heads, my need is info on.

have noticed that some of the pushrods are seated centrally in the pushrod tubes and others virtually sit on the base of the head.?

Also not sure in dismantling the rockers and valve settings, i do have the book but still not sure and probably a confidence thing, also noticed the little keepers are very loose, are these Magnetic and should the stick easily to the pushrod ?

Have got a new Distributor and have put it on by lining the grooves up at the base of the Distributor to the grooves where the distributor fits, could be this the cause of the clink noise when turning the engine by hand or is it more likely to be or is it more likely a valve rocker issue.

As i am only learning its becoming frustrating. any info appreciated.

Ron

I would remove the dizzy and turn again see if it disappears if it does you know it wasnt seated properly, when new they do take a bit of grunt to lock in. Your not going to do any real damage turning it by hand, the engines are tight to turn anyhow so would not worry too much, it sounds like the valve settings are out if the pushrods / valves are loose should be at 0.006 there is a setting your valve guide on here somewhere, set them to that and see if it's improved, I would do that before dissembling anything. I am off next week helping Lisa so if I get a sec and your around I could probably have a quick look.
