Engine bay looks a lot better with a motor sitting in it, how's it going did you get it running . . . you'll soon be cruising around.

Starting to get things sorted in the engine department, replaced all the wiring as old was too short and scabby looking, bumper and exhaust on, waiting on breather box still then can get breather pipe fitted proper, a couple of pics.

The engine would turn over but would,nt fire up, then discovered that the ignition wire from cab was wired to the negative right side of the new coil (the right side of the OLD coil was positive and i had labelled ignition cable when we took the old engine out. RIGHT side of coil. ) So we had a positive wire going to the negative of the coil and shooting down the negative wire to the electronic igniter (module), Then we changed the ignition wire to the positive side of the coil. Alex came over and found we had a positive supply to the dizzy cap but no spark at the plugs. Spoke to John and he had admited he had done this once and fried the igniter and he had guessed thats what has happened here. Does this makes sense. David
Any chance of the technical guys moving this thread over to the Readers rides instead of clogging up the lounge, bout time i started one,

Re: Daves engine fitting
That's what Alex sort of said when he called, so I would borrow a standard coil and dizzy setup and eliminate each to find out which is the cause, the ignitor 1 module (will break) the ignitor 2 module is supposed to be protected from this sort of thing do you know which one it is.

Re: Daves engine fitting
At a guess i would think the coil is ok because the fuel pump was running and that was wired into the coil

Problems
Daz, On the dizzy it says Flame thrower, Billet Distributer, Petronix, there is a number
D1868 which covers the black cap and grey cap model, ours being the black cap, a number comes up D186810, which i think is igniter I module,
Inside the dizzy you can see the igniter module, ours is a black igniter box. Seen igniter module II (red and white box igniter box) for sale, and quite easy to replace, but hav.nt seen the igniter I module for sale anywhere.

Bit of a difference with the coil providing power to a fuel pump, and enough power for the spark plugs mate.

The igniters should be interchangeable surely cap, dizzy are all the same, must admit not something I have a great deal to do with, give Peter good a call at volksgoods or drop him an email he will tell you, he probably has both for sale too. http://www.volksgoods.co.uk/

Peter Good
Good call about Peter Good, did,nt think about him,
The igniter II module will fit our Petronix distributor but will have to upgrade our new bosch coil to a Petronix Famethrower II coil, so hopefully can get these fitted and try to start up the engine once again. One expensive learning curve(£140) for connecting the wrong wire. David
The only good thing to come out of this is, i have learnt quite abit about the Pertronix distributors and ignitor modules.

How are you getting on with it dave?
I found these hose seperators for oil lines they look like theyd be good to make a bracket from. Lots of other good stuff too heatshields etc.
The link for the hose seperators is here

Line seperators
They look very nice and not too bad a price, i would need you to have a look to whether i need anything now, i popped into Janspeed the other day and managed to blagg a roll of heat refective bandage tape (foil and fibreglass) which you wire on, abit untidy looking but you cant see it, they tend to use it alot on their vehicles, need you to cast your eyes on it to see. Here is the evidence something was,nt quite how it should of been.

Engine
Stuck the new ignitor back in and new coil, started the engine up, turned over and fired up abit but did,nt stay fired up, abit of back firing going on, seem to moi that it was out of firing order or not firing on all four, dont know. Checked the fuel, took the filters off and could see all four had fuel coming out. Any help on what to do next. David

Re: Daves engine fitting
My gut feeling would be the HT leads either not being in the correct firing order or they are shot, only my 10p worth Dave.

Re: Daves engine fitting
Glad you've got it running now all be it not too well!
I would check that the HT leads are seated properly on top of the spark plugs as I know Liam and Kev found I hat to get them on!
Will have to pop down soon to see it running!!

Re: Daves engine fitting
Yep sounds like leads or timing, firing order is 1432 so check they are in the right order and down properly, was the dizzy already in situ or did you have to put it in, hasn't been moved at all. I imagine the Petronix dizzys don't need it, but when you put electronic ignition into standard dizzys there was an air gap that had to be maintained.
