Stonor Park VW Expo 1st June 2014 - With pictures added

The Association of British VW Clubs (ABVWC) in association with its sponsors Adrian Flux, Coolflo, Hawthorns and VW Heritage welcomes all enthusiasts of Volkswagen's and its associated marques, and their families, to VW EXPO AT STONOR PARK 2014, the 30th meeting at this venue.
The show will be open on Sunday 1st June 2014 between 9.00 am and 4.30 pm and there will again be a single charge for entry to VW Expo and the Stately Home of £10.00 per adult, whilst children under 16 get in for free. Refreshments and toilet facilities will be available as usual. The show’s attractions are as follows:

· Trade Stands & Autojumble
· Concours d’Elegance
· Club Displays
· Air-cooled Avenue
· 40 years of the Golf & Scirocco
· Miss VW contest
· Children’s Fancy Dress (under 12’s)

Stonor Park has been the home of the Stonor family for over 800 years, the house being built around 1190. It contains many items of rare furniture and paintings and will be open to you on the Sunday afternoon after 14:00 hours by showing your admission ticket, as entry to the house is included in the ticket price. The grounds are situated along the B480, to the north of Henley on Thames and are within easy reach of the M4 & M40 motorways.

Might have to give this one a miss this year, three bank holidays on the trot may not go down to well  at home and I will need a pass for later on in the year!!.
Guess we havn't got many signing up for camping this year  if we don't need marshals and we are still doing the club meet the night before?

No worries Owen, I think we will make it free for club members again this yearr anyhow. I will fund it from I get paid for helping out then people wont have to Marshall.

Steve has said he has maps and information this year for the marshal's so shouldn't have the problems of last year for those that do fancy helping out.

Yes we are having club meet on Friday 30th
Ron, Daz and I are all off early Saturday to set up the camping area, get our pitch set up and mark out.
And yes Daz is planning to do free Stonor for all signed up members.

It will be good to get an idea on numbers so please do post and let me know numbers.. Daz can you help me with a ring around and give Robbie and Kate a call as they don't come on here much.

 i will be going to stonor on the Saturday, possibly bringing a friend or liam/ ruadhan as kate is in Edinburgh that weekend and wont be back till the 6th of june. I will bring the usual Barbie and a few beers, but I will try to get their early to help out. regards robby

I will be coming up on the Sunday morning as I have work on Saturday and plans for Saturday night. If we are having a club stand/display, is there space for me?

I have never been to Stonor before, what time will I be aloud entry into the grounds if I am parking with the rest of the club?

Probably need to get there about 9:0am to get in before the day visitors arrive but people are arriving later to enter the concours so shouldn't be a problem and theres a separate way in for  them. Daz can probably advise you nearer the time. Traffic can be bad around Henley so its best to plan an early start if you can

Matt thanks that would be great if you could bring your car along, as I wouldn't mind printing some club flyers / info off and getting the club banner up ready for your car and hopefully a van possibly. Like Owen said need to get their early around 09:00 if you can I have booked the club stand so will have a free pass for you.

If anybody has any bits to sell on the stand then they are also more than welcome to bring them along.

I can take one of the vans up (mine or another), get things organised Sunday am and look after this for the day with help as is available. Just need lots of visitors please, steady supply of tea to cure the expected Stonor hangover and someone to give me a break a couple of times so I can have a wander round. 

That said we could take turns and a few of us could sell stuff and hang out to meet new peeps. I'll call you re leaflets, banner, flag etc as most of this is with you.

Daz, can you ask john for a nice double width slot like we had last year?  We could do plenty with that.

And if anyone has a desire to look after or organise the stand, I'll gladly let them.
Just let me know who wants their vehicle up there alongside matts and possibly ours and I'll do what I can

No worries I will be on hand Sunday too as my duties fingers crossed should be over for the most part, I will see if we can bring up our pop up gazebo too so the club has somewhere to hang out rather than trampling over to the camping area.

Thank you all for your great company and support over the weekend, really enjoyed this weekend although a bit tiring. Numbers were up according to  Stonor and Concours was a great success well done Steve and generally we have had good feedback so far.

I need to get the photo's off James so might be a while and will be uploading some on to the ABVWC website soon but look forward to any other snaps.

We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at Stonor this year. Thank goodness the sun came out. It always makes such a difference.


I thought the club stand was great. All the vehicles and especially Matt’s and Robbie’s on the front got a lot of onlookers and interest.


The stand also worked well for selling of parts, both Ron and I sold a few bits and pieces.


Also it meant that we didn’t have to keep walking up & down the fields to get refreshments, as we had teas & nibbles with us. The gazebo was great for shade, so overall yes I think the stand was well worth while this year.

Apologies for being AWOL for the last few days, have been very very busy moving Linda's daughter back home, still doing her flat but should be done by Friday,.

Stoner was a superb weekend, Saturday drive up was faultless with Daz leading the way, Carl and Helen waited for us at Cheively and then onto Stoner where Robbie was ahead of us, Robbie then found road closures on his route and arrived behind us but we all arrived safely, we all then started work on marking out the camping area and team work was great from all the guys and Gals and soon we were all settled in,

Work soon started on maning the gate and the campers and traders soon arrived and a few early beers were on the go as the sun started to shine, Zoe and Miles then arrived in there cracking early bay and slotted into our area and got settled in, ( fitted sheets, how nice eh) lol, lovely to meet up again.

Later we all settled to feeding and drinking and laughing round a camp fire, all wood and charcoal was appreciated and the evening went on a little late.

Sunday morning was up early to get the club stand sorted and in my opinion was a great success and attracted a huge amount of interest with Matts bug and Robbies Roman Trades SC, well done show and shine Robbie, spent nearly all Saturday with T cut,attracted a few potential new club members, sunshine was out in force and was quite hot throughout the day, made some good sales and made a few quid as did Carl and Helen.

Teamwork again in packing up was excellent from everyone and the day at Stoner concluded with Daz, Carl, Helen going for Tea and cake up to the Manor where as us mere minions travelled home lol, Convoy home was lead by Matt then Robbie the myself, all got home safe but I had a slipping clutch for a short time but will look at that later in the week.

In short,,,,what a fab weekend

Looks like i missed out then glad to hear there were no breakdowns this time round.
We did well here too Keith has cut and bent all the steel for the roof racks so just waiting on a convenient time to assemble them and  then a mass welding exercise.
