Re: V is poorly
Oh no, sorry to hear that.
Hope you have a great time in Europe and V's back up and running for the remainder of the summer shows soon!
Let me know if you need anything.

Re: V is poorly
Here’s the culprit that ceased our engine.
It’s a carburettor stud!
We remember losing a carb stud when we were in Europe in 2011 on our way to EBI. We had pulled in at Charleroi and noticed that the air box lid had almost come off, a wing nut was gone and we couldn’t see the carb stud either. We did look around in the carb briefly and the engine bay and couldn’t find anything, so we put the air box lid back on with one stud only.
How the stud managed to worm it’s way through the carb, down the manifold and then through the valve without the piston jarring against it we don’t know. It’s obviously been stuck there for 2 years as you can see by the wear of the stud against the piston and the valve head. I could see the stud through the spark plug hole (once the engine was out). It had dislodged and then caused the piston to jar and ultimately the fly wheel to cease……hence no engine.
Enjoy the pics!

Re: V is poorly
It was obviously a very tortuous journey as it took 2 years to get there!

A great big THANK YOU to Owen & Daz for all your help over the las week in getting a spare engine and exhaust together for us to put in our bus.
The time you have given us is sooooo generous and we appreciate it loads.
We are going to give her a little run this morning and if all goes well we hope to get to beach buggin tomorrow

Re: V is poorly
We tried but no cigar thinking the spare engine is a 1300 not a 1600 after all so might be over fuelling either that or the engine is not well.
Thank you for sauce and butties by the way

Can we make v better.
Hi guys
Tomorrow we are going to have another crack at getting the spare engine from Daz running in our van.
we think /hope that the main problem is one of the twin carbs over fuelling the engine. Daz wonders if it might just be 1300, so I've bought the jets for that from Eurocarb.
But I also have a twin port borrowed manifold from Owen and Robbie in case I need to revert
So we have 3 jobs; fibres gadgets back under the dells, change jets and re-check valves. But I'm going to take the engine out to do them as each is quicker with engine out and overall might save the time back up.
Ron is coming over to work with Helen and I and Owen has offered to stand by for when we are running up and tuning. Daz is on call and I'm hoping we can sort it without dragging him out to look at my van yet again.
my ambitions are modest, just to get running and up to the pod for Action, over to Busfest for a day trip or over night at the Caravan club site and then Symmonds Yat. it doesn't have to be fast, just running for a few weeks to the end of the season. Then I can sort out what we are doing with a new engine for our next massive European adventure next year.
Thanks again in advance to my awesome club mechanics. And fingers crossed this time

Re: V is poorly
Great news.....we carried out the jobs above with fantastic help from Ron and yet more help from Owen (thanks both of you). V is now back on the road again. We are going to have a test run in the week and Carl is hoping to have a cycling break ( with the bus) next weekend as Helen is working nights.
Thank you everybody for your help, parts and advice.

Re: V is poorly
Wow!
I have never seen a stud in a piston like this before and it must be a one in a million chance of that happening.
I'll let Steve know when I see him as he was wondering last time what your engine problem was.
Good to know your back on the road again as well.
Cheers
Simon.

Cheers, we have got ourselves down for a new engine, just waiting for a date sometime in the next 2-3 months.
Carl has made it to Action this weekend, I'm joining him & the others tomorrow.
Thanks Helen
