Rear tyre sizes on wide 6
I have on the rear of my bus wide 6s and the tyre size is 205/65/15, as the height of the bus is a slight issue with the garage i have two spare new 165/55/15s would these be suitable. have looked on several sites and got conflicting info, some say yes some dont indicate this size on a wide 6.have Irs rear suspension but no adjustable spring plates, tyres 1st then, also have what appears to be big Koni shocks on the rear, would changing these to smaller shocks help lower the back end ???? or drop 1 spline ??
Info appreciated
Thanks

How much of a difference are we talking, I personally wouldn't go any lower than a 65 profile otherwise you will likely screw up your gearing, the shocks wont make a difference, has the bus got a rake if so I would possibly look into dropping it a spline and leveling it out you probably have to fit a small width tyre then though 195 or 185. The other thing you have to think of is the tyre load rating I cant imagine the load on 165/55 will be suitable for a camper.

Many thanks Daz, makes a lot of sense, did have 165/55/15 on the rear of Arabella, maybe thats how she was pretty slow.

Re: Rear tyre sizes on wide 6
I'd say 165 on a six inch rim is too stretched for the rear of a bus

Re: Rear tyre sizes on wide 6
Wouldn't like to risk a 165 on that size rim, sudden loss of pressure and the tyre could lose contact with the rim. Probably best checking on one of those tyre estimator sites to see if a 185 size would give you just enough room. How about a couple of bags of cement in the back to get it in the garage!!. Like Daz says it may look odd and screw up the gearing especially when you fit the larger engine as I guess the previous owner had it set up fairly well.

I am a wally, it was 165 i had on the front off Arabella and 185 on the back, i have 2 185/55/15 tyres which are new in the Garage, width is ok i guess but what about a 55 profile,,,is it TOO LOW.
Ron
as for cement in the back, she aint gonna like me saying it but Linda goes in the Back deck and then air out of tyres to 10psi and bus goes in no probs but cant have Linda doing that all the time eh. ha ha

Think 65 is minimum profile really you wanna go on the back, might be wrong though. David

Also it depends what the bus sits like if it looks good the way it is then putting lower profile tires to lower the back will make it look (and drive like) crap. Bring the back down an inner spline and then id tweak the front down to match

Also how much do you need to drop the bus by? The 205 tires work out as a sidewall height of 123mm and the 185/55 work out as a 102ish sidewall height. So changing the tires will drop the bus 10mm which is hardly anything!

Must admit the bus drives really well with current setup but the bus appears to give an agressive attitude in its stance but as i said it drives really good and quite fast for a 16tp, ah well poor Linda then eh ha ha.
