Hi again, we've had a note on the forum:

Hi there,
I was just wondering if you or a colleague would be able to assist me, I am looking at buying my first camper and would like some expert advice, I am living in Tidworth, Hampshire, I would ideally like someone with experience to come with me to look at the Van.

The Van is located in Perham Down near Tidworth.

My Mobile is 07766 982563

I replied with a note and I have an email address for Tidworth Carl if anyone wants to get in touch with him:

Hi Carl. It's Carl here from AK. I would be happy to assist but I only really know aircooled stuff and there are half a dozen a lot more knowledgeable people in the club than me.

I've posted your request up on our forum to see if you get a better offer. I've also copied some of the guys into this email. Why not pop on the forum, log in and say hi. As  a local guy you are certain to get a warm welcome and a lot of help.

And then once you've got the van we can include you (if you like us) in all the shows, club nights, drive out days and weekends away that we do.

For example a couple of us and families are camping in the sunny New Forest at Ashurst and watching the World cup game at the pub. You could even come along to say hi if you want to.

Cheers

Must admit not something I am greatly knowledgeable about only played with Aircooled stuff really but can always tag along for support if needs be.

There are a few buyers guides on the web for T25/T3 as below...

Carl has replied to say:

Hi Carl,

The Van is Air Cooled as I understand as it has only one grill at the front, just as a guide price how much should I be looking to pay, the Van has been re-sprayed (poor Job) no major rust areas I have checked the Sills, foot wells and underneath is sound and look pretty solid.

Daz, if it was aircooled wouldn't it have two front grills?

The van has been sat for a long period of time, it runs but needs a new fuel pump.

It was last MOT'd in Apr 2011 and expired 2012, since then it has been stood still.

The popup roof is in perfect order with no rips etc.

Please can you give me a rough price??

Regards
Carl

Without seeing it or photos it is difficult to estimate on a price and i'm not that up on T25 priceshowever I would think no more than £2k. Not having moved for several years won't help and it could cost £500 + to pass an mot if brakes and suspension gear needs doing. The early T25's aren't much different to bays but they are alot heavier and alot more of it to work on. Engine size varies some of them had the old 1600 twin ports in them which made them very sluggish ie worse that usual.
I would think he is in a good bargaining position bearing in mind the poor paintwork and lack of mot not being able to test drive it so the price needs to be low to avoid too much risk. Providing it looks structurally  sound, engine fires up ok and interior is okay its probably worth the risk.  Try and find ourt why its been parked up did it just expire?.
Also need to aware of the cost of running them probably 20mpg at best.

Hi,

Firstly thankyou all for your speedy replies, great to the the mutural support, I would like to know if someone is in the Tidworth Area who would be willing to come and view the camper with me before I commit to buy it, as you can understand I am meeting a bit of rissistance from my good lady as she does not want me to buy something that will cost thousands to repair.

I will of course pay for petrol money or cross your hands with a nice slab of beer for your time.

Please feel free to give me a bell on 07766 982563 or 01980 651929

I am away from Tidworth over the weekend so ideally today or tomorrow would be ideal as the guy is pateintially waiting for an answer.

Hi Carl

I had a chat with Liam Penny today at Paul Wisk Restos, Liam owns a T25 however i thought i had his number but i seem to have lost it, He said to give him a call to have a chat about the T25 and he maybe able to give you some advice etc, he lives not too far from Tidworth, maybe someone on here will pm you Liams number to help you out.

Ps its the normal issues to look for, underneath, floor, sills, all the seams, top of the fuel tank for rust and debris, amongst other things will determine the price.

Regards

Spoke with Carl yesterday. He sounds like he has found a good early, aircooled  T25. So watch this space.

I enjoyed chatting with him - it kept me away from work for a while

Anyway, he seems a real nice guy and I hope we seem him and hear some more news soon
