Carl & Helen's 67 Split Veronica
Veronica Wheatywheels or the V-bus for short by Helen & Carl.
Here’s the first instalment of our story. We bought V in 2004 and spent 2 ½ years in the restoration of her. We knew nothing in those days and have learnt loads in the process of getting her back on the road.
Veronica as we found her in 2004 – UK registered RHD tin-top in diamond white & Citroën green. She’s had all her welding done by the previous owner and a fresh coat of paint.
No engine bay let alone an engine! Just an old bird’s nest nr the petrol tank
No bulk heads, no panels, no interior, just the glass for the windows
Grinding back & redoing the stone chip layer
The reconditioned 1641 engine in place
V-bus on the low loader going to Bridport for interior door cards
The new door cards by SJ Bowles
The new leather seats, the fresh coat of pearl white and velvet green, note that the roof has been chopped ready for the Martin Walter dormobile roof
The nose sprayed with pearl white & pastel white over velvet green, we chose pearl white.
2009 cleaning the underneath and then putting protection on the underside.
Before:
After:
Us doing the dirty work
More to follow.....
Installation of the twin carbs Dec 2010 - very cold
V-Bus going into the work shop
The engine as it was a 1641 Single carb
The engine out
Mr Muscles
Mr Muscles work – a broken fly wheel nut
Rob the DJ – kept us all grooving in the cold.
Carl was very good at cleaning & polishing tinware!
Winter afternoons turn into night – more light needed
Right carb needed a bash to get it on
The oil breather tower in place
Daz putting the linkage on
The engine back in
Fuel pump on left hand side
Jump starting the engine
The Rolling Road @ Millway
Driving onto the rollers
The readings on the score-board!
Headley doing his thing
Thank you once again everybody for your input, advice, experience, patience & fun!
Found some more photos on the Vanshack website of our resto....2004-2006
The new Dormobile roof (found in a ditch!)
The subframe for the roof
The bulk heads welded in
Front nose
No back engine lid
New engine lid and wheel hole
In the workshop
Reconditioned engine
Engine going in
Undercoat of paint
New coat of Velvet Green & Pearl white
Safaris fitted
Fitting the Dormobile interior

Our handles are not delux, they are just standard chrome handles. The most difficult handle to source was the exterior cargo door. Interior chrome handles also a bit tricky to source but plastic ones easy to find. We will have to look through all our old stuff to see what you can make use of.
The bucket was actually an old potty!! God knows where it came from but it was the perfect hight to rest my head coz my stomach muscles couldn't cope any more - I had toned abs after all that! All gone now mind

Great pics love the shots of it on the rollers!
Forgot how cold it was doing the carbs though! Why is it we allways seem to do things on the coldest possible day! Reminds me when we were stripping Dazs bus in the snow!

Re: Carl & Helen's 67 Split Veronica
The new engine install:
A 1776 engine, with Dell 34 carbs, vintage speed exhaust and a MST serpentine pulley
Starting the engine for the first time....
The engine and tinware finally on....
Many thanks to Owen & Ron for all the elbow grease and manual labour, thanks Daz for the advice as always.
So far she runs lovely, with so much more power. Just need to run her in a bit now at a gentle pace.

Re: Carl & Helen's 67 Split Veronica
Many thanks to Ron who came around and helped us check our safari windows and fit our Butty's seals.
This is what we found:
The filling:
Carl doing lots of 'inspecting'
Who's doing all the work???
Tea break
The fine painting left to Helen
Result
Seals now fitted
And they don't leak.....fabulous. Thank you all for all your help.
Thank you Owen for helping our Rob & Tamsin with their dynamo issues.
