My bug

Post by 533clive on Thu Jul 11 2013, 22:36

Thought it was about time for me to introduce the beetle that's slowly sucking my life out of me, along with most my cash! Very Happy Very Happy

How it arrived, on Good Friday:

And how it was looking about two weeks ago:

And a sneak peek at the colour it will be:

Still hoping it'll be back on the road, for the first time in its life since '97 about September time. My only minor headache at the moment is finding somewhere to be able to paint it, hopefully soon.

Oh yeah, and the first piece of artwork I managed to get on it (although its already on the forum elsewhere:

Good to see your getting cracking, that colour looks fantastic, we are hoping to spray my van in the workshop I am renting, but it's a good distance away.

Do you have a website for your paint work

Cheers

Thanks! :-)

Yeah, thought long and hard about the colour buddy. Did have a space in a barn on the Trinley estate until recently that would have been ideal, but they're selling so don't want non-farm stuff kicking about!

My website is : http://www.airborneartwerx.co.uk/

Cool they fit well used to use the old ford/vauxhall side repeaters but you could hardly see them.

After a massive dose of 'no enthusiasm', I'm finally back at it with this. Managed to get the engine back in, and about 70% of the wiring done today.

More wiring tomorrow!!!!! Very Happy

Thanks Carl, and Matt. I may take you up on that near the end of the project, just to supervise/show me how to set the timing up, if that's okay

Well done wish my van was that close, might see if I can get up there and get the beam back on this weekend.

There should be a timing guide on the workshop forum somewhere . . .  also there are some great tech articles on camper and bus including timing with a strobe light.

How did you get on up at the workshop Daz.

After this Aug & Sept show rush, I can give you loads of spare time for rubbing down etc ...

How are things going with your new wiring? All coming together as it should? I bottled out and had mine done last year on the van. I was having loads of starting problems, especially hot starts. But then I still had bare leads for ancillaries now fitted.

Wiring is lovely when it works I think !

See you soon

Wirings all sorted, hopefully.

Got the interior painted as well, and the re-painted speedo installed.

Looking lovely! I had a friend about ten years ago who had a beaten up old bug, we had no idea at the time about restoring these things, it was cold at ice in there in the winter, but it was still cool to drive round in it, beaten up as it was.
