HO17, Germany - http://www.uraltkaefer.de
Quite a few of you have already talked about coming to Germany for Hessich Oldendorf or for Belgium Euro Bug In next year in late June and early July.

Together these give us an incredible, every four year European trip to Hessich, Germany, on to the factories in Wolfsberg and Hannover and the back via EBI - Euro Bug In the following weekend for those that want to make it a 10 day holiday.

A couple of us have decided to miss BBT this time as getting to Hessich was always such a race from the ferry.

So the plan now is for John and Jay to leave Jersey on Tues 20th June. We will aim to leave early at 7am to meet up at Fleet Services at 8am, for trip to Dover on Weds 21st June. The aim is to travel 141 miles, 3 hours Andover to Dover leaving at 7am early Wednesday to catch a lunchtime Dover ferry to Dunkirk.

Dover ferry return is currently £45 each way today on DFDS if we catch the midday ferry out on Weds 21st June and back on Sunday tea time.

For those short on time a good alternative is Thursday morning early ferry >> go to Antwerp >> join the BBT party and Friday convoy to Hessich to meet us at the campsite after the Friday show.

HO17 Show dates are 23rd to 25th June. Friday is more chilled with a vehicle line up. Saturday is the full show day.

So back to the original itinery. Dover ferry lands at 2pm Weds 21st June. We will aim to drive to one of two campsites just East of Antwerp and a little campsite near the Belgian border. This is 141 miles, 3 to 4.5 hours. If we stop at BBT to see Bob’s private collection, add another hour. So it is short stop arriving at 7-8pm and leaving at 10am on Thursday.

Thursday 22nd is a short day after the mammoth Wednesday. To Hessich it is only 226 miles, 5-6 hours. So 2 long stints, hoping to arrive at 4pm in Hessich. Camping fields are basic but on the edge of the town.

One thing we are not used to is that European shows finish earlier on Sunday’s. So for those going on with us we go to Wolfsberg on Sunday 25th June.

If you are coming home after Hessich, it is 361 miles to Dunkirk, a really full 8 hour day. Plus then 3-4 hours back to your homes from Dover. You might want to stay and camp or Formula 1 motel at Venlo or Antwerp and split it to two days maybe?

So on to Wolfsberg we go. It is not that far for a Sunday afternoon to the wonderful Wolfsberg – just 88 miles, a couple of hours further East.

Now, there is simply not enough time here to tell you everything to enjoy in VW town Wolfsberg. It’s awesome and the welcome is spectacular.

We will see:
Autostadt
Glass towers
Diesel Struass – vw classic factory museum
Ferdinand Porsche House
Photoshoot in front of factory towers
Lake restaurants
And swimming and sunning in the fresh water lake
There is also good possibility to take the train or possibly take vans to Berlin  - 139 miles away

The Wolfsberg campsite, Camping Allersee is great – a god chance to chill and clean up after the weekend with all facilities on site or nearby. We are already booked for Sunday, Monday and Tuesday nights. It will be busy and huge fun again.

If you are coming home from Wolfsberg it is 443 miles to Dunkirk, a really full 8-10 hour day. Plus then 3-4 hours back to your homes from Dover. You might want to stay and camp or Formula 1 motel at Venlo or Antwerp and split it to two days maybe?

But if you are coming on with us, we leave Wolfsberg sadly on Weds 28th June at lunchtime. But we go to Hannover (just one hour and a quarter, 57 miles) where most of the buses (not yours John) were made.

On Weds afternoon we hope to take in the VW OldTimer, another truly impressive old VM museum and stay camping overnight in Hannover at Camping Blausee.

With an early start on Thursday we hope to visit the factory and get a Hanoover factory tour but if not we will head to Cologne

Hannover to Cologne is 192 miles and this is likely to take 5 hours or more with a stop or two.
Again we can camp overnight at Camping Berger on the outskirts of Cologne on the banks of the Rhine.

A bit shorter the next day – Thursday 29th June - we go to Chimay for (Euro Bug In) 171 miles, 4-5 hours with stops, getting us to EBI early on Friday afternoon. And herev we hope to meet some of you coming out for the EBI weekend. The journey from the ferry to EBI and back to Dunkirk is only 136 miles, 3 hours.

European Bug In - Friday 30th June to Sunday 2nd July - http://www.europeanbugin.com
A firm European favourite, the European / Belgian drag racing event, although it’s basic camping with portalloos.

And then after a second European show weekend, back we come.

And here is one more choice for you?

EBI wraps up a bit later on the Sunday afternoon so we could stay and all head for home on Monday 3rd July – quite a sociable way!! That way we can take the 136 miles, 3 hours to Dunkirk, get the midday ferry, dock at 1pm (remember the hour difference) and be home that evening – unless you are going back to Jersey!!

Andover is 141 miles, 3 hours

OR we could pack up and head back to the ferry on the Sunday afternoon 2nd July.  Then we would need the 4pm or 6pm ferry, back one hour later with the time difference and be late back, maybe not ideal.

Obviously, there will be people who only do Hessich and / or EBI and I’ve tried to think about combinations for those not with us for the full 12 days – our main holiday J

The huge advantage of making it for the duration is the factories, the time to chill, touring and convoying together and the holiday away.

Let us know what you are planning? Tentative plans and numbers are needed for all this and we will put posts on Facebook and Forum early this week.
See you all soon
